Module 1: Access the Umbraco Backoffice

Getting started with Umbraco

Umbraco is a content management system that allows web editors across the University to update content on the UniSC website. Web editors and coordinators are nominated by their cost centre manager.

It is the web editor and coordinator’s responsibility to ensure their pages are updated regularly. Regularly updated websites have improved rankings with external search engines such as Google. Current and accurate website content also improves UniSC’s credibility.

Logging in

To access the Umbraco Backoffice:

  • Open your web browser and paste this URL (edittrain.usc.edu.au/umbraco). A login screen appears.

  • Click on the 'Sign in with Azure AD Single Sign-On (SSO)' button which will use your UniSC credentials to log in.

Logging out

To log out of the Umbraco Backoffice:

  • Select the profile picture in the top-right of the screen.
  • Click Logout.

Umbraco Backoffice

After you have logged in, you will be taken to the Backoffice.

From the initial dashboard in the Workflow tab, you can manage your:

  • Tasks requiring my approval: If you are a Coordinator, any pages that have been updated and sent for publish approval will appear in the queue for your review and approval.
  • My submissions: Any pages you have updated and requested publish approval will appear here.

From the top toolbar, you can navigate between different sections. The following sections are available in the Backoffice (based on your user permissions):

  • Content: access the Content tree to create and edit web pages on the UniSC website.
  • Media: all images and documents (Word, PDF) are saved in the Media gallery for web editors to access by the website team.
  • Forms: online forms can be created by the web team and all form entries are available to download if a web editor has been granted access to this section.
